TOP Nature walking route Cartierheide

Explore the rugged heath landscape of the beautiful Cartierheide, located in the middle of the hiking paradise De Kempen. For a long time the tones were set here by shepherds and small farmers. The dirt roads served as trails for peddlers who carried their wares on their backs. This is an area steeped in history, where even Napoleon left his mark. Did you know that the forests were once the territory of smugglers?

The Cartierheide is part of the Kempen nature reserve and is located southwest of Eersel. It is a quiet walking route through forest, along heathland and large bodies of water. The area is flowed by the idyllic Dalems Stroompje. Here you will find moist heathland, birch brook and gale thicket. The Round Sundew and Bell Gentian also grow here.

During this walk you can spot all kinds of animal species. We recommend a walk at dusk, when you have the greatest chance of meeting deer. Among other things, the smooth snake, the viviparous lizard and the slow worm roam the heath. Do you meet them? Don't worry, they are absolutely non-toxic. The moor frog also lives in this area.
